Russell Hancock, 76, of Montrose, died at 6:05 p.m. Friday at
Graham Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past five weeks. He
had been ill for the past four months.
He is the son of the late Mont and Irene Vanosdoll Hancock, born
on February 16, 1896 in Montrose. He had been a resident of Montrose all
his life.
He married Caroline (Lena) Van Ausdall on September 8, 1920, in
the Belmont Community.
He was employed at the True Temper Corp. For 48 years and retired
14 years ago at the age of 62.
He was a lifelong member of the Trinity United Methodist church
in Montrose and was a past trustee and past member of the official board.
He was a veteran of W. W. I, serving in France from December 1917
to June 1919, in the 803 Areo Squadron and held the rank of Sgt. He was a
member of American Legion Post No. 41 in Keokuk.
He is survived besides his wife by: one son, Don Hancock,
Northridge, California; one daughter, Mrs. Joe (Shirley) Blaise of Keokuk;
one brother, Ralph Hancock of Montrose; three sisters, Mrs. Charles
(Thelma) Schwiete of Keokuk, Mrs. Jesse (Elizabeth) Kilmer of Winterset,
Iowa and Mrs. Hazel Cummings of Monrovia, California; five grandchildren,
Nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a daughter in 1932, three brothers,
Leonard, Floyd and Kenneth, one sister, Mrs. Freda Owens and one grand
daughter, Holly Ann Blaise.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Trinity
United Methodist church in Montrose with the Rev. H. F. Wilhelm
officiating. Military service will be held at the Montrose Cemetery.
The body will remain at the Schmidt Memorial Home until 11:30
Monday morning at which time, he will be taken to the church in Montrose.
