PEARL HANCOCK

          New Boston, Iowa, March 30.  The people of this community were
greatly shocked when the sad news came of the death of Mrs. Bert West at
Iowa City.  She underwent a surgical operation for goitre on March 18 and
died March 21.
          Pearl Hancock was reared in this place and was widely known.  She
was married to Bert West in March, 1909.  She leaves to mourn her loss, a
loving husband, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ayres Hancock, two sisters, Verda
and Ethel and two brothers, Leon and Bryan, all residents of this place. 
The funeral was held at the home of her parents at 1 o'clock Tuesday
afternoon.  A large number of friends and relatives gathered at the home to
pay their last respects to the remains of one who will be sadly missed. 
The floral offerings were many and beautiful.  Funeral services were
conducted by Rev. M. A. Banker, of Fort Madison, Interment was in South
cemetery.  The following brother-in-laws and cousins were pall bearers: N.
L. West, Roy West, Dee Newbery, Vance Newhouse, Byron Britton and George
Britton.
