NORMAN J. HANCOCK

          Norman J. (Pat) Hancock, former city clerk and superintendent of
the Lee County Home, died during his sleep last night in his home, 604
North Fifth street, after having been in failing health for a number of
years.
          Mr. Hancock served as bookkeeper for the Blom-Collier company for
more than 20 years in addition to holding the appointive positions as
superintendent of the county home and city clerk.  He had been retired for
a number of years because of poor health.
          Seventy-two years old, he was born August 29, 1873 at Argyle, the
son of Isaac and Rachel Craig Hancock.  All of his life was spent in Lee
county with more than 45 years in Keokuk.
          On December 24, 1893, he married Ada C. Miles in New Boston.
          He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian church, the
Modern Woodmen of America and the Royal Neighbors.
          Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James R. Schlotter, of Keokuk; a
grandson, Robert C. Laubersheimer of Keokuk; a great grandson, Robert K.
Laubersheimer; three brothers, Willard A. Hancock of Hannibal, Edwin H.
Hancock and Charles F. Hancock of Montrose; and a sister, Mrs. Nellie Brown
of Keokuk.
          His wife preceded him in death on December 15, 1936, a son Wayne
R. Hancock, died December 3, 1938, and he was preceded by a brother, David
Hancock, and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Brown and Fannie, in infancy.
          Funeral Services will be held in the Schmidt Memorial Home at
1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon with burial in New Boston.
