MELVIN LEE PIERCE

          Melvin L. Pierce, 64, of Santee died Thursday.  He was born in
Des Moines, Iowa.  Mr. Pierce worked as a custodian for the Lemon Grove
School District.  He had served in the Navy, and was a member of Kairos and
Cursillo.
          Survivors include his wife, Eileen R. Pierce; daughters, Sandra
Cooper of Des Moines and Laureen Ehbrecht of Santee; sons, Mark Pierce of
Altoona, Iowa, and Shell Pierce of Harrisburg, Pa.; mother, Marguerite
Pierce of Des Moines; sisters, Phyllis Bautista of Des Moines and Carol
Gordon of Havana, Fla.; brothers, Duane Pierce of Des Moines and Ralph
Pierce of Plymouth, Ill.; and 17 grandchildren.
          Visitation; 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, St. Columba's Episcopal Church,
9720 Cuyamaca St., Santee.  Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
          Donations: Cursillo in Christianity.
