MELVIN LEE PIERCE

          Melvin L. Pierce, 64, of Santee, died Thursday (April 1, 1999).
          Visitation is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at St. Columba's
Episcopal Church.  The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
          Mr. Pierce, born April 20, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa, was a
custodian for the Lemon Grove School District.  He was a member of Kairos
of San Diego and Cursillo Christian Community.  He enjoyed wood working. 
He served in the Navy from 1953 to 1965.
          Survivors include his wife, Eileen; daughters, Sandra Cooper and
Laureen Ehbrecht; sons, Mark and Shell; mother, Marguerite Pierce; sisters,
Phyllis Bautista and Carol Gordon; brothers, Duane and Ralph; and 17
grandchildren.
