Marjorie Ann Charter, 62, of 2722 E. 16th St. died of
complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also called Lou Gehrig's
disease, Thursday at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at
Hamilton's Funeral Home, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Charter, a lifelong Des Moines resident, was a retired clerk
with the U. S. Postal Service and a member of Capitol Hill Christian
Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Margo Charter and Ellen Turner, both
of Des Moines; her mother, Marguerite Pierce of Des Moines; three brothers,
Duane Pierce of Des Moines, Ralph Pierce of Plymouth, Ill., and Melvin
Pierce of Santee, Calif.; two sisters, Phyllis Bautista of Nashville,
Tenn., and Carol Gordon of Tallahassee, Fla.; four grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to her church or Hospice of Central
Iowa.
