MARY ELLEN HANCOCK

          Mrs. Mary Ellen Hancock died at her home in New Boston March 19,
1934.  She had been in poor health for a number of years, but was seriously
ill only a very short time.
          Mrs. Hancock was born in Lee County on February 2, 1860 and was
the daughter of John W. And Nancy Cotton Wilsey and spent her entire life
in Lee County.
          On march 31, 1880 she was united in marriage with D. A. G.
Hancock in Keokuk.  Seven children were born to this union, three of whom
preceded her in death.
          She was of the Baptist faith.
          Surviving her are the following children: Leon A. Hancock of
Longview, Texas; Mrs. William Hamilton of LaBelle, Mo.; Bryan Hancock of
New Boston, and Mrs. Thomas Keith of Montrose.  She also leaves a sister
Mrs. Belle Criner of Fort Worth, Texas; a step brother, William Glasford of
Chillicothe, Ill., and nine grandchildren, besides a number of nieces and
nephews.
          The body was removed from the Cunningham Funeral Home to the home
near New Boston Tuesday after noon.  Funeral services were held from the
residence at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. G. V. Wilson officiating.  Two
songs were sung by Miss Minnie Lowenbery, Miss Clara Weber, Miss Elma
Lowenberg and Mr. M. W. Cunningham.  The pallbearers were: Roy Lowenberg,
Irvin Weber, Ralph Bergthold, Aaron Hentzel, Albert Metz and Edward Weber. 
Interment was in the South Cemetery.
