EDWARD H. HANCOCK

          Edward H. Hancock, of Montrose, died at St. Joseph hospital this
morning at 8:30 o'clock after having been a patient since November 15.
          Born March 29, 1868, on a farm near Argyle, he was the son of
Isaac and Rachel Craig Hancock.
          He was employed as telegraph operator on both the Santa Fe and
Burlington railroads and had retired after 30 years of service.  He was a
member of the Montrose Methodist church and of the Order of Railroad
Telegraphers.
          Surviving are his wife; a son, Benton Bowen Hancock, of Chicago;
a daughter, Mrs. Bernice Hancock Kellar, of Fort Madison; a granddaughter,
Ruth Lillian Hancock, of Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Brown of Keokuk;
two brothers, C. F. Hancock, of Montrose, and W. A. Hancock, of Hannibal,
and nieces, nephews and other relatives.  Two sisters and a brother
preceded him in death.
          The body will remain at the Schmidt memorial Home until Friday
noon when it will be taken to the Methodist church at Montrose where the
service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Morrel C. Rubey
officiating.  Burial will be in the Montrose cemetery.
