CLARENCE CARDWELL PIERCE

          Clarence C. Pierce, 74, of 108 S. E. Oralabor Road, Ankeny, died
of a respiratory ailment Tuesday at Veterans Medical Center.  Services will
be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton's Near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral
Home.  Burial will be at Cory Grove Cemetery in Elkhart.
          Mrs. Pierce was born in Des Moines and moved to Ankeny seven
years ago.  He retired as a nursing assistant at Veterans Medical Center
and was an Army veteran of World War II.
          Among survivors are his wife, Mildred; two sons, Paul Bice and
Danny Bice, both of Des Moines; four daughters, Diana Sanchez of Fort
Morgan, Colo., Linda Blair of Bellevue, Neb., Ellen Giles of Creston and
Kathryn Greiner of Ankeny; a brother, Roland, and a sister, Muriel Reeves,
both of Des Moines; and 10 grandchildren.
          Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home, where
the family will meet friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
