ADA C. (MILES) HANCOCK

          The death of Mrs. Ada C. Hancock, prominent Keokuk woman,
occurred at her home, 223 Morgan street yesterday afternoon at 2:40 o'clock
after an illness of three months with complications.
          She recently returned from a trip to California with her family,
shortening her stay in the west because of the illness which proved fatal.
          Very active in civic and lodge work, Mrs. Hancock was widely
known and highly respected throughout the county and served as
superintendent and matron of the Lee County Home from 1925 to 1926.  She
also served as bailiff matron at the court house here.
          Her life was devoted to her home and family and she was known as
a loving mother and wife and a good mother.  Her last thoughts were for her
children.
          Born in New Boston on June 23, 1873, she was the daughter of A.
H. And Elizabeth Jane Huntington Miles and came to Keokuk 39 years ago.
          On December 24, 1893 she married Norman J. Hancock in New Boston. 
Two children were born to this union.
          She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian church and of
the Royal Neighbors lodge.
          Surviving her are her husband and two children, Mrs. James
Schlotter and Wayne R. Hancock, both of Keokuk; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy
Wallace of Keokuk and Mrs. John Trump of New Boston; two brothers, Carl
Miles of Iowa City and F. H. Miles of Los Angeles, Calif., and a grandson,
Robert C. Laubersheimer of Keokuk besides a number of nieces, nephews and
other relatives.
          The body will remain at the Cunningham-Ryan Funeral Home where it
may be viewed by friends until time for the services which will be held
from the Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon.  Burial will be made
in the New Boston cemetery.
